Junior football under 16’s

Under 16’s Coaches 2016

Coaching Coordinator Wayne Hilton

I started playing for Pascoe Vale when I was 8 years old, and played all my junior + senior football for the panthers. I played in grand finals and was captain for many years. After a few years break, I returned to Pascoe Vale to coach at junior level, which I have enjoyed for 6 years, developing young footballers, improving skills and teaching kids the love of the game.

B-Side Coach Dean Ross

I am a parent of a player and was at Pascoe vale in 2015.I was a player in the afl/vfl/vfa system for 8 years back in the 70s and 80s.In 2012 and 2014 l was a junior coach with both teams making grand finals. My philosophy for young men is that they will best learn by enjoying what they do via instruction, clear communication and patience. They will be taught to respect each other with team coming first and always first.

Cheers Dean Ross

Coaches Review: Season 2015 for the Under 16’s was an exciting one as we welcomed two new coaches to the Pacco fold who brought with them a proven game plan that they had both seen success with at this age level with other clubs. Akie and Joe wasted no time with the core group over the pre-season getting lots of Km’s into their legs to build up the boy’s ability to run games out.

The team also welcomed several new playing faces and before long, there was a complete list of players which were ready to play by the first grading game in April.

Games 1-4

The team started well with 3 wins from the first 4 grading games which saw them maintain their div 3 ranking. Big wins over West Coburg, Taylors Lakes and Strathmore got the season up and running for the boys and built a good foundation to go forward.  The only loss would be to eventual premiership team Aberfeldie.

Games 5-9

Another 3 wins from the next 4 games against Burnside, Hillside, Doutta stars and Craigieburn showed the boys that executing a disciplined game plan would reap rewards. Unfortunately, a loss against Roxburgh Park which was a game where the boys could not get things moving early, would be costly to the chances of securing a double chance in the finals.

Games 10-14

Time for some genuine wet weather football over this period with the boys only winning 2 of the 5 games played. Losses to East Keilor, Aberfeldie and Hillside were costly and were slightly offset by a gritty win of likely finalist Roxburgh Park. In hindsight, this would be the best game of the season with the boys coming back from a 3rd quarter deficit to take the points… Our fitness was key!

Elimination Final.

Whilst the boys tried to get their game going in tough, adverse conditions and took the lead in the last quarter, this was not enough to take the points when Hillside slotted one with 40 seconds to go to deny our boys a spot in the next final by 2 points.

Thanks to all the volunteers which have helped us get through the year and to the boys for giving everything to make the 2015 finals series.

Akie and Joe
